Massachusetts High Chest of Drawers

$24.95

Originally built by Moses Bayley and Joshua Morss in Newbury, MA in 1748-49 as a wedding present for Elizabeth Noyes, this outstanding antique was once thought to have been a "married" piece, the top section being made by person while the lower section built by a second. That in fact was true except that they were both working in the same shop. The drop finials in the apron serve to reinforce that early date of this chest. As we move &Mary period into the Queen Anne, those finials replaced.

Reproducing this piece is a bit different from the other "Highboys". There is a unique treatment in building the lower case for the small central drawer and the ends of the drawer dividers in the top section are exposed to the case sides. Add to that the turning of the finials and the sculpting of the cabriole legs, and you will build a piece that you will not want to give away - even as a wedding present!

Chippendale Small Chest

$24.95

This small chest is a transitional selection that bridges the Queen Anne and Chippendale periods in our history. The simplistic design causes the specific dating of this piece to be difficult because these chests were built for functionality and were used a great deal in the households for many years. And, while the year in which the original was created is questionable, the origin is not! This gem is based on a Massachusetts design through and through. The lift of the feet and the graduation of the drawers help to bring your eye in an upward movement that exhibits the verticality that is so prized in furniture design!

Featuring a dovetailed case with the top joinery exposed, this chest will be a statement of your cabinetmaking abilities. We walk you through the dovetails in the case as well as the drawers which are both half-blind and full-through examples of the joinery that boosts quality. You will develop the skills to create a bracket style footed base and select moldings that enhance the case while not over powering the graceful design as a whole.

A must build for your portfolio!

Hepplewhite Nightstand

$24.95

The Hepplewhite era of furniture design began in the late 1700's to early 1800's and this Night Stand came of age around that same period. However, this work table has transcended time and has been a favorite of most cabinetmakers since it's inception. The graceful four-side, tapered legs are the foremost telltale of the Hepplewhite design.

This table can be used in a number of favorite locations in your home. It is an excellent Night Stand for next to the bed and can work just as easily as an end table or prominent feature in your Entry Hall. The construction of the Night Stand begins with a few methods to create tapered legs and moves through the Mortise & Tenon joint to the hand-cut, dovetailed drawer. Then you discover a finishing method that is as simple as you can get! Whether you are a beginning woodworker or someone that wants to explore different woodworking techniques, this is a great project.

A must have for the home!
